The ITALGRIP® System places a very thin layer (only
4mm) of synthetic aggregate on the existing pavement surface
using a special type of epoxy binder. Thus, both the friction and the
drainage capacity are enhanced, resulting in a safer road
for the traveling public.
The ITALGRIP® System creates a surface texture
that greatly reduces the danger of black spots on the road, making it
safer for drivers.
The main characteristics of the ITALGRIP® System
are:
High friction values that mean greatly increased roadway safety, thus
reducing accident occurrences by 50% compared to traditional pavements.
High macro-texture values that translate into high drainage capacity
and very low risk of hydroplaning.
The ITALGRIP® System has two components:
a special type of epoxy resin: the binder
the MC-1™, a synthetic aggregate
Bending beam:
the maximum bending is 20%
see
example
Extesibility:
the extensibility is about 15%
see
example
Shrinkage:
the high shrinkage of ITALGRIP® guarantees
absolutely no stripping

The exposed surface of the natural stones of an asphalt and PCC surfaces
are subject to the abrasive action of traffic and, depending on the
type of stone, can become rapidly polished, reducing the antiskid properties
of the surface.
The synthetic aggregate (MC-1) of the ITALGRIP® System, on the other
hand, is not polished by traffic due to its hardness and durability,
and the peculiar porous structure provides a consistently uniform microtexture
for the entire life of the treatment.
See graph where the
Friction Coefficient of MC-1 and basalt aggregate are compared.
